The role brake pads play in your vehicle is obviously important, but there’s so much more to them than meets the eye. For the next couple of posts, we are going to be observing the complex, and integral machinations your brake pads are working with. This will help you properly maintain them throughout

So, what’s the deal with brake pads?

Firstly, when it comes to brake pads, the majority of the population has a hands-off approach. This means we just listen to whatever a mechanic may tell us, rather than get to the crux of the issue. The problem is that we get the diagnosis, ask them to fix it, and then drive off on our merry way. By taking this approach, we’ve learned nothing. It’s about time we become a little more proactive in learning about our cars. After all, they do most of the work for us.

So let’s kick this off with the only rule of thumb when it comes to your lengthening the life of your brake pads: there are no rules. Cliché. We know it is, but the truth of the matter is that there can be multiple factors that will give you an estimate of how often you’ll need to change/replace the pads. Some of these include the weight of your vehicle, the way you drive, and the quality of the break pads you currently have. That’s just to name a few.
