There’s more to taking care of your vehicle than just changing the oil every couple thousand miles.

Don’t let complacency take the life from your car! Keep reading to find out commonly forgotten maintenance jobs you should be doing on your vehicle!

Check Your Gas Cap

A gas cap can lose its seal over the years making it easier for your gas to evaporate and even cause low gas mileage. A loose gas cap may also be the culprit behind your ‘check engine’ light coming on.

Check your gas cap to make sure it’s still functional and sealed.

Check Your Cabin Air Filter

The cabin air filter filters the air coming into the cabin from outside the vehicle. This helps keep out allergens and pollutants away from you and the passengers in your vehicle.

Be sure to replace your cabin air filter every 15,000-20,000 miles. For more specific details, read your vehicle’s owner manual to see what it recommends.

Change Your Coolant & Automatic Transmission Fluid

Automatic transmission fluid and coolant are usually advertised as “lifetime fluids,” which mean that they never need to be changed. This, of course, is not true.

As with any fluid in your vehicle, it can degrade over time and thus cause maintenance problems when not replaced.

A general recommendation is to change your transmission fluid and coolant after every 60,000 miles. Be sure to read your vehicle’s manual for detailed information on fluid changes for your vehicle.
