It seems like gas prices are climbing every day, and heading to the gas pump feels like a drag.

Follow these quick tips to help you save money at the pump!

Fill Up When It’s Cool

It’s best to fill up your tank when it’s cool outside, either early in the morning or late at night.

Fuel contracts when it is cold and expands when it is hot. Filling up your tank when it is cooler outside, may give you a slight edge when the fuel expands later in the day.

Don’t Wait Until Empty

Gasoline evaporates extremely quickly when in contact with air, and can even escape out of your gas tank if it’s not sealed properly.

Driving your vehicle while it’s mostly air in the tank can cause your gas to evaporate quickly. Fill up your tank when it is at least halfway to keep optimal fuel efficiency.

Don’t Fill Up When You See the Tanker

When you see the petrol truck at the station refilling the storage tank, it’s best to not fill up at that time.

As the petrol truck fills up the tank, it can stir up any contaminates already present within the tank. It can be likely that those contaminants will end up in your gas tank.

Don’t Top Off

It’s tempting to round your sale up to the next dollar, or even try and squeeze some extra fuel in the tank after the nozzle has automatically stopped.

But the truth is, is that you’re paying for nothing when you do that! Most nozzles are fitted to take up any extra gas and cycle it back to the pump once the meter has recorded the sale.
