If you’re planning a big trip for your family, you may want to consider purchasing travel insurance.

Travel insurance falls into two categories: trip cancellation insurance and travel medical insurance.

Trip Cancellation Insurance

Trip cancellation insurance is a package policy that includes items like:

  • Trip Cancellation
This is used in the case of canceling your trip for “valid reasons”. This policy will reimburse you for the pre-paid non-refundable portion of the trip cost.
  • Trip Interruption
This is used in the case you need to leave your trip early due to covered reasons. This will help you pay for additional expenses to make arrangements for your early return.
  • Emergency Medical Expenses/Evacuation/
In the case of sickness or injury, travel insurance will pay for expenses not covered by your domestic health insurance outside your home country. You will also get coverage in the case you need to be transported home under the “Repatriation” benefit.
  • Baggage
In the case of lost luggage, baggage delay up to various amounts, additional expenses due to the fact of lost luggage, and reimbursement of lost items up to a certain amount.

Travel Medical Insurance

This is a separate policy that does not include trip cancellation. This policy focuses on medical benefits and offers more coverage of medical situations than travel cancellation coverage offers.
