Have you ever been browsing online looking at different vehicles for sale when you stumble across a deal that looks way too good to be true?

Well, sometimes sellers price vehicles so low due to a few issues, whether it be structural problems, age, or problems with the vehicle’s title.

If you happen to buy a cheap vehicle with a rebuilt or salvaged title , keep reading to how you can insure your vehicle regardless of title issues!

What is a Salvage/Rebuilt Title?

There are two distinctions between a salvage title and a rebuilt title.

A salvage title means that the vehicle was once totaled and declared a total loss by its insurance carrier. Once the insurance agency declares a vehicle a total loss, the title becomes salvaged.

A rebuilt title means that after a vehicle was declared a total loss, the vehicle gets rebuilt and inspected by the DMV. If the DMV declares the vehicle satisfactory, the title is then changed from salvage to rebuilt.

What Coverage Can A Rebuilt Title Vehicle Get?

For most cases, a rebuilt title vehicle will only be offered liability insurance coverage.

Liability insurance includes bodily injury and property damage liability insurance. Comprehensive insurance isn’t usually offered for rebuilt title vehicles, which include coverage for theft or vandalism.

What Can I Do?

If you are set on buying a vehicle that has a salvaged or rebuilt title, be aware that you may spend extra money on rebuilds or inspection from the DMV.

You will still be able to insure your vehicle with liability insurance. Though, be sure to speak with your insurance agency to see what options you may have.
