This short video on YouTube shows why weight distribution is so important. But how do you know you’re distributing weight correctly to avoid a disaster?

Load Your Trailer Properly

Loading your trailer properly can help keep the trailer from swaying and other dangerous towing situations.

Be sure to load your trailer heavier in the front (unless otherwise stated by the manufacturer) with 60% of the cargo weight in front and 40% in the back. Also, be sure to tie down your load with rope and secure tie-downs.

Check the Cargo Weight Distribution

Once you’ve loaded your trailer, it’s time to check the weight distribution.

First, check all the axles to see if any are overloaded. Then look at your cargo and make sure it is evenly loaded from left to right.

As stated before, heavier items should be closer to the rear wheels of your vehicle on the trailer while lighter items should be closer to the back. You can see why the front of the trailers should contain the bulk of the weight compared to the end of the trailer, like the YouTube video shows.
