Adding tint to your windows has many benefits. From adding privacy to protecting your eyes and vehicle’s interior from the sun, window tint is a great option to consider.

With many options on the market for window tint, how do you know you’ll pick the right one? Read on for helpful tips on how to pick the best window tint for your vehicle.

Research Your Options

There are six common types of window tint many people gravitate to.

Dyed window tint – blocks the sun using multiple layers of dye which absorb solar heat. This option will fade over time and will need to be replaced. *Not that great at blocking UV rays

Metalized window tint – blocks the sun using metallic particles embedded within the tint film. Advantages include shatter & scratch resistance, UV blocking, and glare reduction. *May cause signal issues due to the metal particles

Hybrid window tint – A mixture of dyed and metalized window tint, this option uses a combination of titanium and grey dye as well as metallic particles. *May cause signal issues due to metal particles

Carbon window tint – blocks about 40% of the IR radiations, prevents upholstery fading and provides a matte finish to the windows.

Crystalline window tint – blocks UV radiation and solar heat without the dark finish of traditional tint.

Ceramic window tint – blocks up to 50% of solar heat through ceramic particles within the tint film. Further advantages include shatter, glare and fade resistance, and 99% UV blocking protection.

Research Your State Laws

Every state implements different laws regarding window tint. In Texas, the tint laws go even further with regulations on reflection, colors of tint, identifying stickers, and certificates.

The Texas window tint laws require 25% visible light for all windows in a vehicle, with exceptions for the back-side windows, rear window, and medical exceptions.

Do your research on the specifics for your state, or check your local DMV’s website for any further information.
