Gasoline is a volatile substance, meaning that one of its caveats is that it evaporates quickly when introduced to oxygen.

That being said, there are two quick tips that can help prevent your vehicle’s gas from evaporating too quickly.

Check Your Fuel Cap

The first thing you should do is check your fuel cap. Make sure it is secured tightly and not loose at all.

Having a loose fuel cap can cause issues with evaporative emissions controls which can then trigger the check engine light. Another concern is that a loose or even missing fuel cap can introduce dust and debris into the fuel tank, which then can clog the fuel filters.

Park in the Shade

Parking in the shade has multiple benefits for your vehicle, all of which protect your vehicle from the sun!

Most modern vehicles have advanced EVAP systems that prevent evaporation from occurring, but not everything is foolproof.

Be sure to park in a shaded area to prevent your vehicle’s fuel from evaporating quickly, especially when it is extremely hot outside.
