The Rio Grande Valley is rich with history dating back centuries. This December, the city of Weslaco is celebrating 100 years of history with the 100th Anniversary Celebration.
In 1917, the W. E. Stewart Land Company purchased 30,000 acres of land and then sold the townsite to Ed C. Couch, Dan R. Couch, R. C. Couch, and R. L. Reeves. In September 1919, the land was surveyed and platted by a hired civil engineer, H. E. Bennett. By December 1919, lots were placed for sale for settlement at prices from $50 to $400.
In the 100 years since Weslaco’s establishment, the city has grown to a population of over 40,000! The Key to the Valley is as diverse as ever with a sprawling community of parks, schools, diverse residents, and much more!
From December 6th – 10th the city of Weslaco is commemorating 100 years with its 100th Anniversary Celebration. This 5-day long celebration contains everything from cultural performances, food, art and vendor exhibits, BBQ cookoff, music performances, and much more.
