We’ve covered just about everything within our tire category. Now, we’ll go on to the types of maintenance your vehicle requires. Today, we’re going to help you understand why air filters are so important for your vehicle!

Why do we need air filters?

As you may know, any engine is kind of like a big vacuum. It needs to suck in a bunch of air to help with internal combustion that gets your car going. If your vehicle is only taking in tainted air (i.e. carrying dust, or other kinds of debris) then the internal parts of your car will get dinged and scratched up. Your vehicle will perform poorly when this happens, and its lifespan will shorten. Fuels like gasoline and diesel won’t be able to burn, therefore eliminating the explosive force that allows your car to run. That’s why having clean and fresh air filters is so important.

What do they do?

Air filters are specially-made from a tight weave, allowing air to pass freely into your vehicle’s engine. All the while, the air filter is catching all the crud and debris that comes with it.  Filters should be replaced almost as often as you take your car in for an oil change. However, if you begin to notice a drop in your gas mileage, spark plug problems, difficulty with acceleration, or visible dirt on your air filter and/or the “Service Engine” light coming on, it may be time for a replacement. If you notice any of the aforementioned, visit your nearest mechanic or dealership to get the filter replaced.
