Have you noticed your vehicle shaking as you’ve been driving or while stopped at a light?

Vehicle shaking can have a lot of different reasons as to why it is happening. From the simplest to filling up your tank with gas, to the more complicated that calls for replacement parts or mechanical work.

If you find your vehicle shaking, here are some factors that may be causing the problem!

Vehicle Shakes from the Engine Compartment

If you notice most of the vibrations coming from the engine compartment, it could be a few factors:

  • Shuddering when accelerating
  • Shaking when reaching a particular speed
  • Shaking after a short while of driving

If your vehicle has any of these symptoms, it may mean that it’s time to change your vehicle’s spark plugs. If you notice the spark plugs are fine or have been recently replaced, check the spark plug wiring.

If everything looks fine with the spark plugs, check your fuel and air filters for clogging, and replace them if needed.

Vehicle Shaking from the Steering Wheel

Two of the most frequent causes of shaking from the steering wheel are brake problems or unbalanced tires.

If you notice your vehicle pulling to one side when you brake, your disc brake system may be compromised. Brake rotors that are warped due to excessive braking or hard stops may cause steering-wheel-shakiness as well.

If you notice your vehicle shaking as you reach higher speeds, the tires of your vehicle may be unbalanced, misaligned, or need to be replaced.

If you are driving and your vehicle starts vigorously shaking, stop the vehicle and take a quick look at your tires. Do they look excessively worn down? When you push the wheel, does it wobble? Take your vehicle to the nearest mechanic if any of these factors are present.

Do not continue to drive if vehicle is shaking vigorously.
