Have you noticed that your headlights are looking a little foggy? Or have you noticed that your headlights have water droplets on the inside?

This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to replace your headlights altogether. But how does this happen and what can you do to stop any damage from taking place?

Condensation

Whether it be from sun exposure or use, your headlamps cool down after you turn off your vehicle or as the outside temperatures cool down.

Most headlamps have tiny vents to help control pressure differences– but cool and moist air can seep into these vents as well. When this happens, warm air mixes with cool air and moisture can appear in the headlamp.

What Can You Do?

The first and easiest thing you can do is wait for the water to evaporate with the heat of the day or by the light of the headlamp.

Another way to remove condensation from the headlights is to remove the lens and clean it from the inside. Usually, this takes a bit of work and know-how so you don’t permanently ruin the lens.
